72 Hours In Vancouver: From The Sea To The Sky

Vancouver is one of those rare cities that seems to have it all – from breathtaking mountain views and oceanfront parks to vibrant neighborhoods and world-class food. Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the North Shore Mountains, it’s a place where you can hike in the morning, explore city streets by afternoon, and end your day with drinks by the water. Whether you’re here for the first time or returning like I did after falling in love with the city back in 2019, 72 hours is just enough to get a taste of Vancouver’s magic.

Day I

Start your morning with brunch at Nemesis Coffee, a stylish café known for its high-quality coffee and inventive brunch options. It’s just outside Gastown, one of Vancouver’s oldest neighborhoods, famous for its cobblestone streets, historic charm, and the iconic Steam Clock.

From there, make your way into Stanley Park. Walk, bike, or drive along the scenic seawall, and stop at Prospect Point for a coffee break at Prospect Point Trading Post and some sweeping views of Lions Gate Bridge and Burrard Inlet.

In the afternoon, cross Lions Gate Bridge and stop at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, where a treetop bridge offers stunning views of the forest below. Continue west to Horseshoe Bay for a peaceful stroll along the waterfront, and explore the rocky shorelines and quiet walking paths at Whytecliff Park or Dundarave Beach on your way back to the city. For one last viewpoint, take a short detour up Cypress Bowl Road to Cypress Lookout, one of the best spots for panoramic views over Vancouver.

Wrap up your day with dinner at PIER 7, a waterfront restaurant in North Vancouver serving fresh seafood with a view. Nearby, Lonsdale Quay is a great place to shop and take in the city skyline, especially at sunset. To return downtown, hop on the SeaBus for a quick and scenic ferry ride across Burrard Inlet.

Day II

Spend your second day exploring downtown Vancouver. Begin with brunch at Palate Kitchen, a sophisticated café and bistro housed in an elegant heritage building. Afterward, take a stroll through the Waterfront area, home to Canada Place, the striking Marine Building, and expansive harbor views framed by mountains.

Take your time wandering the West End in the afternoon, including Davie Village, Vancouver’s vibrant LGBTQ+ district, or head straight to Robson Street, the city’s premier shopping and dining strip. Whether it’s sunny or rainy, there’s always something to do there – from stylish boutiques and cozy cafés to independent bookstores and lovely bakeries. If you’re into the arts, stop by the Vancouver Art Gallery, just next to Robson Square, or grab a coffee at cafeclub., Vancouver’s first fully digital-order café, nearby.

In the evening, head over to Commercial Drive. Start with drinks at Social, a lively bar offering creative cocktails, great music, and a stylish vibe. For dinner, book a table at Pepino’s Spaghetti House, a charming Italian eatery known for its comforting homestyle pasta, cozy atmosphere, and classic checkered tablecloths.

Day III

On your final day, start with breakfast at Jam Café in Kitsilano, a beloved all-day brunch spot famous for its hearty portions, cozy rustic décor, and creative twists on classic breakfast dishes. Don’t leave without trying a Caesar, Canada’s version of a Bloody Mary.

Head west for a stop at Spanish Banks, a long stretch of beach with views of the city skyline and the coastal mountains. Continue down to Kitsilano Beach for a scenic stroll, then make your way to Granville Island, a cultural hub known for its Public Market, artisan shops and live street performances. It’s the perfect place to grab lunch from one of the many food stalls — and be sure to stop for a pickle tasting at Hobbs Pickles.

Afterward, hop on a Granville Island Ferry for a short, but picturesque ride across False Creek, and wind down the afternoon with a beach walk along English Bay. It’s a prime sunset spot and even better if you catch happy hour at Cactus Club Café, right on the water.

End your trip in Yaletown, a revitalized warehouse district filled with trendy restaurants and bars. Book a table at Nuba, a vibrant Lebanese restaurant offering fresh, healthy dishes with bold Middle Eastern flavors.

Got some more time?

If you have a little extra time in Vancouver, there are a few more gems worth exploring. Start with a visit to Deep Cove, a peaceful bay village tucked at the foot of Mount Seymour. With scenic docks, local shops, and a welcoming community vibe, it’s a lovely spot for a relaxed morning or afternoon.

For a day trip beyond the city, head north to Squamish along the breathtaking Sea-to-Sky Highway. Stop for breakfast at Fergie’s Café, a cozy woodland cabin serving hearty, locally sourced dishes, and follow it up with a beer tasting at A-FRAME Brewing Co., known for its small-batch craft beers and rustic cabin-style taproom.

To dive into classic Canadian culture, catch an ice hockey game. Whether it’s a professional match or a local team, the energy in the arena is electric. For the full Canadian experience, try a pickleback shot at a nearby pub before puck drop.

And if you’re in the mood for a coastal escape, head to Steveston Village and its charming Fisherman’s Wharf, where you can enjoy freshly caught seafood right by the water. Then continue on to White Rock, a laid-back beach town known for its relaxed vibe and its scenic pier, which is the longest in Canada.
